Discovery for Women Holds Seventh Edition of Makeover

The seventh edition of Makeover, an annual ladies’ event organised by the Discovery For Women held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Halls A and B of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

The event, which was anchored by Chioma Omeruah a.k.a Chigul, had both halls filled to the brim despite the Workers Day public holiday. Present at the event were five panelists from different walks of life, a representative from Nestle Plc., Mr. Akintunde, and RGK, the youth dance group from The Fountain of Life Church.

In her messages to the ladies, the Vice President of Discovery for Women, Pastor (Mrs.) Nomthi Odukoya said that God has put treasures in them which may be talked down by people because of lack of proper understanding of their uniqueness.

Using the experience of Jonah (Jonah 1:1-17), she noted that delayed gratification is required at this stage of life so that they can achieve their goals. According to her, many unnecessary heartaches would be incurred if care is not taken to watch their companions. Following the bandwagon to rush into the ship of life, she noted, is dangerous but through patience and obedience to the Captain of the ship, they can enjoy divine direction in their lives.

In her words, “You need to watch the people you sail within your ship. Throw away the things that are not needed in your life. Some storms you’re experiencing is because you’ve allowed the wrong people in your ship. If anyone isn’t building you up or they’re leading you astray from your purpose, then you need to get off that ship. There are storms in life but you can’t be the captain in your ship, you need the Captain, Jesus to stair your ship to the shore.”

Pastor Nomthi, therefore, encouraged the ladies to be confident in themselves as that is when they would be able to face life and fulfill their purpose. “You are a beautiful vessel created by God, don’t just allow anyone put you in a compromising situation. Don’t open your vessel for such. Wait for your Captain, don’t run away with the pirates.”

She further urged the ladies not to be discouraged by storms of life as they help prepare them for the glorious place God is taking them to. “There are processes you need to go through at this stage. A storm experienced with Jesus is better than a trim experienced alone,’ she said.

Also present to encourage the ladies were Ayodele Lanre-Yusuf, a customer experience consultant; Abimbola Kunle-Osunkunle, jewelry designer and Founder and Creative director of Cornucopia; Funmi George, a Dietitian and fitness professional; Oluremi Akintola-Samuel, MC for traditional weddings and CEO, Strictly Weddings; and Lala Akindoju Fregene, an actor, producer, and host.

The five panelists took the ladies on their journeys into their professions and how they’ve been able to stand out among their peers. According to the panelists, focus, boldness, self-realization and understanding one’s identity in God are vital tools to a successful journey to fulfilling purpose.

The event also had the Miss Makeover pageantry and crowing. Princess Okeke (Miss Humility), a 200-level pharmacy student came out tops and was crowned 2019 Miss Makeover, while Chukwuemene Jane (Miss Purity) and Tosin Olarinde (Miss Kindness) were runners up.
