You Must Go Beyond Writing, HOD Tells Participants At Publications Dept Training (Photos)

Evangelical writing is a calling and ministry that requires more than having writing skills to excel in it.

These were the words of the Head of Publications Department, Fountain of Life Church, Bro. Babatunde Oladele at the department’s 2nd Skill Acquisition and Enhancement Training.

The training which took place on Saturday was organized for members of the department as well as other church members who are reporters, transcribers, bloggers, and writers.

Bro. Oladele who was one of the facilitators at the training took on Writing to Minister: The 5 Pillars of Evangelical Writing and explained that not everyone is called into evangelical writing.

According to him, evangelical writing is a specialized and “spiritual” affair that requires a variety of skills to make an impact.

He explained that apart from knowing how to write which is foundational to succeeding in this niche, there is a need for consecration, as well as intellectuality.

Furthermore, he stated that one of the core goals of evangelical writing is to win souls and edify the body of Christ, stressing that a good grip of the Bible and being cerebral, are key ingredients to ministering via writing.

This is as he said that the purpose of the training is to empower members of the department and the church with the needed skills to effectively minister through their communication skills.

Also speaking during the event, veteran journalist and columnist, Bro. Niran Adedokun said finding a unique niche and voice are some of the ways to stand out in the digital space.

Bro Niran who took the participants on Niche Reporting: How to Find Your Own Voice and Unique Angle, noted that the advent of the internet has opened up opportunities for writers and communication professionals in general.

The experienced writer said, however, that having a unique voice and style in an era where there are millions of platforms littered across the web, are prerequisites to standing out.

Also, he explained that reporters must be objective, balanced, fair and factual, and have an eye for news if they are to be taken seriously.

For the participants who were also taught the rudiments of transcribing like a pro, how to communicate effectively and ways to present writings to gain visibility on search engines, the training gave them a better understanding of communication especially writing to minister.

One of them, Sis. Becky Olorunpomi described it as “such a great event. A huge thanks to our facilitators too. They poured out themselves.”

The highlight of the training was the presentation of certificates to the participants by the department with Sis. Yemisi Mafe, and Bro. Teddy Celestine also part of the facilitators.
