THE HEART OF AN INTERCESSOR (OVERVIEW)

Intercession is speaking to God about somebody or something else. Prayer is enforcing God’s agenda on earth. Things just don’t happen; prayer is God’s way of allowing man the great privilege of partnering with Him to enforce His agenda on this side of heaven.

WHO SHOULD BE AN INTERCESSOR

Every Christian, therefore, should aspire to be an intercessor. You can’t just be talking about yourself before God, you should have someone else or something or projects that you can talk to God about.

Our needs, struggles and situations are so small in the bigger picture of God’s agenda. So, your life is too small to be all about you. Every Christian is qualified to be an intercessor. The Holy Spirit can help us to have God’s perspective over things and carry out the business of God on earth which includes praying for others (Romans 8:26).

FOUNDATION OF AN INTERCESSOR

Love is the fabric, motive and foundation of everything we do in the kingdom and the foundation of an intercessor. An intercessor, therefore, needs love to be able to pray for others.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN INTERCESSOR

1. He or she must be a student of the Word
2. Must be in the spirit
3. Must be identified with the purpose of God
4. Must be discerning
5. Must have a tender heart
6. Must always yield to the Holy Spirit even when it doesn’t make sense
7. Must yield to the wisdom and thoughts of God
8. Must stand against the darkness
9. Must be tenacious
10. Must be selfless
11. Must not be reward conscious

Prayer

Lord, give me an understanding of your love and faithfulness to me and mankind to not derail me in interceding for others. Put the love of others in me, so I can intercede for them.

Reflections

1. God loves you dearly and is intentional about you. Deliberately spend time with Him daily.
2. God’s economy is yours to enjoy. Stay plugged in.
3. Choose to obey every instruction God gives to you.
4. Keep confessing and declaring God’s word over every area of your life.
