Bimbo Odukoya Foundation Reached Over 9,000 Beneficiaries in First Half of 2021

The Bimbo Odukoya Foundation (BOF) has reached out to over 9000 people in various capacities in the last six months. This report was provided by the foundation coordinator, Mrs Aderonke Oyelakin, while updating partners, volunteers and donors of the foundation’s activities for May and June. In her words, “With your support, 9,845 were reached in the first half (January – June) of the year 2021 through our core projects.”

According to Mrs Oyelakin, fourteen (14) cases of domestic violence and child sexual abuse were responded to by the team, while educational supplies and feeding and financial and accommodation supports were made available to many others.

The foundation was also involved in training, workshops, seminars, campaigns and rallies, including the CLEEN Foundation gender-sensitive policy; CEWHIN and Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOWMAN) capacity building workshop; and 2021 Menstrual Hygiene Day hosted by the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), among many other events.

BOF was also a part of a consultative meeting organized by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in collaboration with the Commonwealth Foundation (CF). The meeting was a pre-report research methodology aimed at bringing together key ministries, agencies and departments [MDAs], civil society leaders, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and information about the management of Covid-19 spending as it concerns the government’s responses to FOI requests and on assessing gender impact of Covid-19 pandemic and government.
As the State Coordinator for Child Protection Network (CPN), an initiative of UNICEF, the foundation hosted the Day of the African Child Event at Ilupeju with 42 children in attendance. BOF also visited eight schools within Yaba Oshodi, Kosofe and Ilupeju areas to increase awareness about Child’s Rights with emphasis on the Importance of Education, Prevention of Child Abuse, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

In addition, CPN, UNODC, NDLEA, BOF, GSRH, and other organizations collaborated with the Centre for Corrections and Human Development to commemorate World Drug Day 2021 with the theme; Together, we can tackle the world drug problem.

BOF also held her Community Awareness Program (CAP) on Saturday 10th of July at 9 am prompt as it continues to work towards achieving its proposed permanent site.
