The December 3rd Sunday service at The Fountain of Life Church (TFOLC) Headquarters in Lagos was nothing short of powerful! Senior Pastor Jimmy Odukoya reiterated the truth that God remains in the business of giving gifts and urged Fountaineers to stay open to receiving from Him.
He conveyed this message while welcoming both online and on-site attendees to the month of Abundant Gifts.
Continuing his sermon on the third part of the series, “The Cut of The Covenant,” which he initiated three Sundays earlier, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya reminded his listeners that the Holy Spirit is the Pledge of God to Believers. This reference harked back to Part 1 of the series, where he had previously explained the distinction between a Pledge and a Treaty.
He also reminded them that, just as the circumcision of the children of Israel was their sign of eligibility to inherit the promised land, Christ Jesus is the inheritance for anyone in covenant with God.
The seal of ownership by the Holy Spirit on their lives signifies this covenant, as he explained, “Christ shows us in the Scripture that He is both our inheritance and the Way to our inheritance (John 14: 1-6; Ephesians 1: 3-12). But only heirs inherit. You are eligible to feature in the inheritance discussion only when you are an heir. But how do you become an heir?”
The Senior Pastor then focused on his message of the Holy Spirit as the agent of God who transforms the Believer from a purchased servant to an adopted son.
“When Christ died on the Cross, God paid the bill of sin and purchased us as servants (1 Corinthians 6:20). We were initially bought as servants, made ready for adoption as sons who are able to inherit,” he explained.
He continued, “But there is a requirement for a servant to become eligible for inheritance. It is Circumcision, which is the requirement for anyone purchased to be able to inherit (Genesis 17:13).” However, the clergyman noted that this circumcision is that of the heart and not necessarily of the flesh.
He proceeded to illustrate how the Holy Spirit works in multiple ways to facilitate the transformation of the Believer from servant to son/daughter. According to him, the Holy
Spirit begins the work of translation of the believer from servant to son by first circumcising the heart. He then endorses them as co-heirs with Christ, and He becomes a Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Counsellor, Intercessor, and Standby all at the same time while bearing different gifts for the benefit of the believer (1 Corinthians 12:1-13).
