Humility Is Key To Experiencing Greatness, Says Pastor Jimmy

While ministering during the May 26 Family Sunday Service, which also was designated as the
Children’s Day edition, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya announced to the congregation that humility
before God is the key to experiencing great and mighty things.

Speaking from Michah 6:8, Philippians 2:4-8, and Matthew 18:21-35, he re-emphasized the
importance of doing away with self-conceit and abiding in the presence of God in love, kindness, humility and forgiveness just like a child.

He probed the reality that the older a person gets, the harder it becomes to forgive while the reverse was the case when one was a kid.

“Unforgiveness is like someone drinking poison while expecting the offending party to die. The
greatest way to obtain mercy is through the forgiveness of the offences of others,” he said.

In demonstrating the need to be child-like in the requirements for trust, humility, and forgiveness, he brought up children to do different activities and they obeyed without any protests or questions. He indicated that his confidence that they would obey his instructions was premised on the relationship he has with all of them.

The clergyman also read from Psalm 131:1-3 to say that it is necessary to be fully trusting in the One
Who is holding everyone up by His mighty hands. The trust in God’s faithfulness, through the consciousness of relationship, and the faith that we are all His children, according to him, are critical to a meaningful life as a Christian.

Pastor Jimmy stated that deriving fulfilment from titles is bound to fail in the things of the
Kingdom. He re-emphasized the importance of having the mindset of servanthood and service
in the Kingdom by quoting from 1 Peter 5:1-3.

He mentioned that the Scripture applies to everyone who is a Christian irrespective of where they carry out their service whether in spiritual or secular settings. According to him, children should be taken as the perfect example as the title means nothing to them but rather a relationship.

‘’Don’t be so busy trying to announce your title. Be so focused on delivering values. Shepherd the flock, take care of people, show the love of Jesus” he declared.

He reiterated that it is in doing these that people would honour you for who you are in their lives.

The Associate Senior Pastor, Tolu Odukoya, had earlier in the service called some children to the Altar to share the Promise of the Week with the Congregation taken from Deuteronomy 15:6.

The children expressed their different understanding of the Scripture to the delight of the Church and confirmed that God has ordained His people for a blessing and all-round victories in all areas of their lives. She urged the Congregation to be expectant throughout the week believing in God for supernatural blessings that cannot be depleted.
