God’s promise of abundant grace to his children is accompanied by an expectation of the fulfilment of some basic requirements.

The above position was made public by Pastor Gbenga Onabanjo of the Fountain of Life Church (TFOLC) Ilupeju, Lagos, during the second service of April 3, 2022.

Pastor Gbenga Onabanjo told the congregation that a person who is given a lot of grace is a sign that he or she is called and equipped to serve God.

According to the cleric, “God’s abundant grace in one’s life comes with the complete forgiveness of all sins. The grace of God in a person’s life causes worship and makes him or her a good example for other people to follow.”

Speaking from 2 Corinthians 9:8 and 1 Timothy 1:12-17, the clergyman maintained that when God’s abounding grace saves one and forgives them of their sins, they ought to go and spread the gospel to others, just as the Apostle Paul did.

He said, “When our sins have been forgiven by God, then it behooves us, as the recipients of God’s mercy, to desist from doing sinful things.”

Pastor Gbenga Onabanjo further stated that as recipients of God’s grace, believers should no longer have a heart of stone but a heart of God that constantly seeks to give and assist others.

“God convicts and humbles his children with grace, and it is therefore expected that we should imbibe these virtues of humility so that we will be exalted by God at the appropriate time,” he noted.

The preacher went ahead to cite the example of Moses, who had an encounter with God on the mountain, and upon his descent, the Israelites were unable to move close to him as the glory of the Lord radiated all around him.

In his words, “God’s grace makes Christians models for others, and there is an expectation that the life of a child of God will be an epistle to others which models Christian virtues such as holiness, purity, and humility.”

He also cited David as an example to urge the church to emulate David, who, having received the mercy and grace of God, dedicated himself to a life of worship and service to God.

In closing his sermon, Pastor Gbenga Onabanjo encouraged the church to appropriate all the blessings associated with the abundant grace of God, assuring them that in so doing, they will have multiple reasons to testify of the faithfulness of God in their lives.
